The Lotus RIR · An overview
The Lotus RIR (Restaurant Inspections and Ratings) is one of the main services provided by The Lotus, serving as an overall quality indication of restaurants in particular and the F&B industry in Vietnam in general. This program helps participating restaurants evaluate the dining experience of their guests based on the quality of services, menus, facilities, comfort and various other factors.
The inspections and ratings will be carried out by local and international experts from hospitality industry. If the restaurant passes the inspection by exceeding a specified range of criteria, it will be certified by The Lotus as a high-quality venue recommended for tourists and locals alike, and rated with The Lotus Certification.
The standards set up by The Lotus have been properly adapted to Vietnamese culinary culture from the International Gastronomy’s standards, and curated following the trusted opinions of professionals in the Hospitality industry.
The Lotus RIR aspires to be an effective assessment tool to enhance the art of superior hospitality service throughout dining and catering businesses nationwide, contributing to making Vietnam one of the top food tourism destination in the region in the coming years.
Advantages of restaurants certified by The Lotus RIR
All participating restaurants that have meet the rating criteria will receive “The Lotus Certification” and/ or “The Lotus Symbol” to showcase at their property and any communication platforms. They will be promoted on the media channels of The Lotus and our partners as high-quality dining options, and thus, can expect a spike in popularity and trust of clients, local and foreign alike. With the advice from The Lotus inspectors and consultants, restaurant owners can identify areas to further improve to meet global standards.
What the inspection looks at
Every assessment follows the same set of themes, so that a guest can read a Lotus rating the same way in any city. Inspectors look at Facilities & Hygiene, Design, Service, Menu, Comfort and Sustainable development factors, and each theme is described separately for each restaurant segment.
The expectations grow with the segment. A street food place is assessed on cleanliness, friendly service and well-made local signatures, while a fine dining restaurant is assessed on details such as the décor, the complexity of the menu and the atmosphere created for the meal.
Two stages before a certification
The assessment is carried out in two stages. In the Pre-Assessment, the restaurant owner completes a self-assessment questionnaire about facilities, hygiene, design, ambience and sustainable factors, and The Lotus team reviews the answers.
Restaurants that qualify move on to the Official Inspection, where a Mystery Guest inspector visits as a normal guest and evaluates service, menu, comfort and other factors from a real dining experience.
Five ratings for five kinds of restaurant
The Lotus does not compare a family restaurant with a fine dining room. The sector is divided into five segments, and each has its own certification:
- Diamond Lotus for fine dining restaurants
- Platinum Lotus for casual dining with a cuisine or food speciality
- Ruby Lotus for tea houses, coffee shops, bars and lounges with a food menu
- Gold Lotus for family restaurants
- Silver Lotus for street food and casual dining places
A restaurant is first placed in the right segment, then assessed with the inspection format and structure designed for that segment.
After the inspection
The work does not end with the result. The Lotus provides quality reports and analysis from the inspections, followed by consultancy and relevant training offers, so that the restaurant can improve and maintain its quality over time.
Certified restaurants can display “The Lotus Certification” and “The Lotus Symbol” at their property and on their communication platforms, and are introduced on the media channels of The Lotus and its partners.
